Sewer harpies are the oldest denizens of Keshanar City. When Memnon and his people arrived at the Tefnut River Delta, they found it occupied by Abominations of Apep; creatures twisted over centuries by the worship of the Great Wurm of Destruction. The Memnonese killed most of the creatures, but unbeknownst to them, some fled deep into the natural fissures and cave systems under the giant mesa on which the modern Keshanar City rests. There they remained for thousands of years, only coming out occasionally at night to feed on the Keshite population.
These abominations bear no resemblance to actual harpies, but they are similar in that they use auditory illusions to lure humanoid creatures into the DownTown and consume them. They employ tricks such as imitating children who fell into Troll Holes and are begging for rescue. There have been repeated efforts to exterminate them, but they just nest deeper into the impassable network of crevasses beneath the DownTown sewer system, spending years in a chrysalis phase and eventually re-emerging once the guards become complacent again.
